Materials and craftsmanship

Every piece is shaped over a lightweight sculptural core and finished by hand with multiple layers of mineral plaster, giving a dense, matte, stone-like surface. Mineral pigments, limewash tones and protective finishes are applied by hand according to the selected surface treatment. Tones sit in the ivory, bone and warm sand family and soften beautifully in natural light.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid prolonged direct water contact unless your piece was sealed for sheltered outdoor use — if in doubt, write to us; a real person from the atelier answers.

Production and delivery

Every piece is handcrafted to order in our atelier. Production typically takes 5–10 business days unless this page states otherwise; custom sizes and more complex forms may require additional time.

Your piece leaves the atelier as soon as it is finished. Delivery timing and full terms are set out in the section below.

Shipping, duties and returns

Insured door-to-door delivery is included in the displayed price unless a product page or checkout explicitly states otherwise. Once dispatched, transit typically takes approximately 3–10 business days depending on destination and service; carrier or customs delays can occur. For orders delivered within the United States, applicable customs duties and import charges are covered by Mono Aurel. For deliveries to all other countries, customs duties, import taxes and related destination charges are the buyer's responsibility. Any applicable sales taxes will be displayed at checkout where required. Every shipment is tracked and insured.

Each piece is cushioned and double-boxed like artwork, and you receive tracking as soon as it leaves the atelier.

We share production photos and videos at important stages, and send a detailed final video before dispatch. Your piece is shipped only after you have reviewed and approved it. If you are not satisfied before shipment, we will remake the piece or refund you. Because pieces are made to order, standard change-of-mind returns are not accepted once a piece has been approved and dispatched. Every product is covered by a one-year warranty: in the case of a verified manufacturing defect, product fault or qualifying transit damage, we will provide a refund or a replacement, and in most cases you will not be asked to return the original piece. The warranty does not cover misuse, improper installation, accidental damage or ordinary wear.

About this piece

A sculptural mirror inspired by fractured stone formations and naturally eroded surfaces.

The Rift Mirror combines an expansive reflective surface with an irregular, hand-shaped surround, creating an object that sits between functional design and architectural sculpture.

Its raw mineral texture and asymmetrical silhouette give the piece the presence of a naturally formed monolith while maintaining the refinement required for contemporary interiors.

Each Rift Mirror is individually shaped and finished by hand. Subtle variations in texture, contour and surface character are therefore part of the piece rather than imperfections.

Designed as a focal point for organic modern, wabi-sabi, brutalist and contemporary interiors.

  • Sculptural organic silhouette
  • Mineral, stone-look textured finish
  • Full-length reflective mirror
  • Each piece features subtle handmade variations
  • Custom sizes and finishes available

The design

The Rift Mirror reads as a single mineral mass that has been opened, rather than as a mirror set into a frame. The surround gathers its weight at the base and narrows as it rises, so the silhouette leans and shifts depending on where it is seen from. Against the eroded texture of the surround, the mirror plane stays clean and precise, and the contrast between the two is the whole proposition of the piece.

Materials and craftsmanship

Every Rift Mirror is shaped and finished individually by hand. The surround carries a matte mineral, stone-look texture with the depth and irregularity of weathered rock, while the full-length mirror set within it provides an expansive, unbroken reflective surface. No two pieces are identical.

Dimensions

  • 160 × 75 cm (63 × 29.5 in) — approximate depth 16–18 cm
  • 180 × 85 cm (71 × 33.5 in) — approximate depth 18–20 cm
  • 200 × 95 cm (79 × 37.5 in) — approximate depth 20–22 cm

Dimensions are the approximate overall exterior dimensions, including the sculptural frame. Approximate depth: 16–22 cm, depending on the selected size and the individually hand-shaped sculptural contour. The Rift Mirror is conceived as a substantial, architectural object rather than a thin decorative mirror frame.

Due to the individually hand-shaped nature of the Rift Mirror, slight variations in contour, texture and overall dimensions may occur.

Finish options

  • Ivory White — warm soft off-white
  • Warm Stone Beige — natural warm limestone beige
  • Soft Greige — neutral grey-beige
  • Light Travertine — pale sandy travertine
  • Terracotta — muted earthy clay
  • Charcoal Black — deep mineral charcoal

Each finish is applied by hand. Subtle variations in tone, texture and movement are part of the character of the piece. All six standard finishes are available in every size, with no difference in price.

Placement

As a full-length floor mirror with the presence of a sculpture, the Rift Mirror asks for space around it: an entryway, the end of a corridor, a dressing area, or a living room wall where its full height can be read. In organic modern and wabi sabi interiors it works as an earthen counterpoint to pale plaster and soft textiles; in minimal and brutalist spaces it holds the room as an architectural element.

Notes from the Atelier

Living with the Rift Mirror

Material story

Each piece is shaped over a lightweight sculptural core and finished by hand with multiple mineral plaster layers to create its distinctive stone-like surface — applied, dried and carved back until it reads like weathered stone. Mineral pigments, limewash tones and protective finishes are applied by hand according to the selected surface treatment.

Surface character

Run a hand across the surface and you will find gentle tool marks, grain and subtle shifts in tone. This variation is not a defect — it is the record of the making, and the reason no two pieces are ever identical.

How it is made

Concept, carving, reinforcement, plaster, hand sanding, pigmentation, inspection — every piece passes through the same slow sequence of hands before it is packed, one piece at a time. See Our Materials and Process.

Placement & scale

Sculptural objects work best where they can breathe — a quiet corner, an entryway, the end of a hallway, a console styled sparsely. The lightweight sculptural core keeps large architectural forms manageable to position and to move. Give the piece space and side light; plaster texture comes alive in raking light. Exact dimensions are listed above, and a written spec sheet is available on request.

Long-term care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid soaking, harsh cleaners and abrasives. Treated kindly, mineral plaster ages the way good architecture does — slowly, and with character. Read the Care Guidance.
