Materials and craftsmanship

Every piece is shaped over a lightweight sculptural core and finished by hand with multiple layers of mineral plaster, giving a dense, matte, stone-like surface. Mineral pigments, limewash tones and protective finishes are applied by hand according to the selected surface treatment. Tones sit in the ivory, bone and warm sand family and soften beautifully in natural light.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid prolonged direct water contact unless your piece was sealed for sheltered outdoor use — if in doubt, write to us; a real person from the atelier answers.

Production and delivery

Every piece is handcrafted to order in our atelier. Production typically takes 5–10 business days unless this page states otherwise; custom sizes and more complex forms may require additional time.

Your piece leaves the atelier as soon as it is finished. Delivery timing and full terms are set out in the section below.

Shipping, duties and returns

Insured door-to-door delivery is included in the displayed price unless a product page or checkout explicitly states otherwise. Once dispatched, transit typically takes approximately 3–10 business days depending on destination and service; carrier or customs delays can occur. For orders delivered within the United States, applicable customs duties and import charges are covered by Mono Aurel. For deliveries to all other countries, customs duties, import taxes and related destination charges are the buyer's responsibility. Any applicable sales taxes will be displayed at checkout where required. Every shipment is tracked and insured.

Each piece is cushioned and double-boxed like artwork, and you receive tracking as soon as it leaves the atelier.

We share production photos and videos at important stages, and send a detailed final video before dispatch. Your piece is shipped only after you have reviewed and approved it. If you are not satisfied before shipment, we will remake the piece or refund you. Because pieces are made to order, standard change-of-mind returns are not accepted once a piece has been approved and dispatched. Every product is covered by a one-year warranty: in the case of a verified manufacturing defect, product fault or qualifying transit damage, we will provide a refund or a replacement, and in most cases you will not be asked to return the original piece. The warranty does not cover misuse, improper installation, accidental damage or ordinary wear.

About this piece

Forma Void begins as a single continuous body and is then taken away from. The opening at its centre is not an ornament applied to a surface; it is the reason the surface takes the shape it does. Mass and absence carry equal weight in the composition, and the wall behind the sculpture is drawn into the work rather than concealed by it.

The silhouette is organic and deliberately asymmetrical. Its outer edge swells and narrows the way a form worked by hand does, never resolving into a circle or a square, and the interior void shifts the visual balance off-centre so the piece reads differently depending on where you stand in the room. At 150 cm the object stops behaving like wall art and starts behaving like architecture, holding a large wall on its own without needing anything hung beside it.

The surface is built rather than quarried. Multiple layers of mineral plaster are applied and worked by hand over a hand-shaped sculptural core, producing a matte, close-grained texture with the density and coolness of carved stone. Because the finish is mineral and entirely non-reflective, the form is read through gradients rather than highlights, and daylight moving across a room does most of the work: in flat morning light the piece sits quietly and almost flush, while low or directional light rakes across the relief and throws a soft shadow through the opening and onto the wall behind. The sculpture is never quite the same object at ten in the morning as it is at six in the evening.

This restraint is what allows Forma Void to anchor a minimal interior without crowding it. There is no colour contrast to manage and no pattern competing for attention — only scale, silhouette and shadow. It gives a room a centre while remaining part of the architecture.

Every piece is shaped and finished individually in the Mono Aurel atelier. No mould is used, so the curve of the edge, the movement of the texture and the exact profile of the void differ slightly from one sculpture to the next. Each Forma Void is a single object rather than a copy of one.

The Design

Forma Void is a study in the relationship between solid form and negative space. The sculpture is conceived as one continuous organic mass that has been interrupted — the void is cut through the body rather than framed within it, so the opening belongs to the same gesture as the outer contour.

Removing material at that scale changes how the mass is read. The remaining form appears thinner where it passes the opening and heavier where it returns to full width, giving the silhouette a sense of movement that a solid panel of the same size could not produce. The wall visible through the void becomes an active part of the composition, which means the piece takes on the tone and light of the room it is installed in.

The asymmetry is intentional. A symmetrical form would sit still; this one leans, and the eye travels around it. Seen straight on, Forma Void reads as a clean architectural silhouette. Seen at an angle, the depth of the relief and the shadow cast through the opening give it the presence of a freestanding sculpture mounted to the wall.

Material and Surface

Each Forma Void is built over a hand-shaped sculptural lightweight core. The core is formed by hand to establish the contour and the void before any surface is applied, so the shape is sculpted rather than cut from sheet material.

The core is then covered in multiple layers of durable mineral plaster. Each layer is applied and worked by hand, building the surface slowly until it develops the depth, tooth and subtle irregularity of a carved mineral object. The final hand-applied textured mineral finish is matte and stone-like, with no gloss or sheen.

The result resembles a carved stone or plaster architectural object while remaining significantly lighter than solid stone, which is what makes a piece of this scale realistic to mount on an ordinary interior wall.

Dimensions

  • 100 cm / 39.4 in
  • 125 cm / 49.2 in
  • 150 cm / 59.1 in

The figures above refer to the sculpture's largest dimension. Because Forma Void is organically formed and finished entirely by hand, small dimensional variations can occur between individual pieces. If the sculpture needs to fit a defined wall area, niche or panel width, please contact us before ordering so we can confirm the working dimensions of your piece.

Finish Options

  • Ivory White
  • Warm Stone Beige
  • Soft Greige
  • Light Travertine
  • Terracotta
  • Charcoal Black
  • Custom Color

Mineral pigments and limewash tones are applied by hand according to the selected finish. Colour may appear slightly different depending on lighting, screen settings and the handmade plaster texture. Custom colours can be developed for interior designers and for project-specific installations.

Handmade Character

Forma Void is not a moulded or mass-produced object. Every sculpture is shaped and surfaced by hand, and small differences in texture, surface movement, edge profile and tone are inherent to that process.

These variations are intentional characteristics of the work, not defects. They are what gives each piece its individual character, and no two Forma Void sculptures are identical.

The finish is refined and mineral rather than rough or rustic — the texture is close-grained and controlled, closer to a hand-troweled plaster wall than to a distressed or weathered surface.

Placement

Forma Void is designed for walls with room to be seen. It suits:

  • large living room walls
  • entryways
  • dining rooms
  • staircase walls, where the piece can be read from more than one level
  • bedrooms
  • hotel and hospitality interiors
  • designer residential projects

Scale is the whole proposition. Give the sculpture an uninterrupted wall area and clear space around it rather than fitting it into a gap between other objects. The 150 cm size is intended for tall or wide walls with generous ceiling height, where it can operate as the single focal point of the room. In tighter rooms, or on walls that are already partly occupied, the 100 cm or 125 cm size will hold its proportion better.

Installation

Installation requirements depend on the size selected and on the construction of the wall.

Drywall, plaster, brick, block and concrete each call for different fixings, and the appropriate wall anchors should be selected for your specific wall type and its load capacity. For the 125 cm and 150 cm sizes, and for any commercial or hospitality installation, we recommend that mounting is carried out by a professional installer.

If you are unsure which fixing is suitable for your wall, contact us before installation and we will provide the information needed for your selected size.

Made to Order

Each Forma Void is handcrafted to order in the Mono Aurel atelier. Production takes approximately 5–10 business days. During production we share photographs and video so you can follow the piece as it develops, and before dispatch we send a detailed final video for your approval.

Every order travels door to door with tracking. Transit typically takes approximately 7–14 business days after dispatch, depending on destination and service level. For orders delivered within the United States, taxes and duties are included. For destinations outside the United States, import duties, customs charges and local taxes may be levied by the destination country and are the responsibility of the recipient. Full details are set out in our Shipping Policy.

Please provide a correct phone number and delivery address at checkout so the carrier can arrange door-to-door delivery.

Customization

Custom colours are available across the full range. Custom dimensions may also be available for interior design, architectural and hospitality projects where the piece needs to be developed to a specific wall.

Designers and architects working on specification are welcome to contact us before ordering to discuss finish development, sizing and lead times for multiple pieces. See our custom commissions page, or contact us directly.

Care

  • Clean with a soft dry cloth, or a slightly damp cloth where needed
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or abrasive pads
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents
  • Do not scrub the mineral surface

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Forma Void handmade?
Yes. Every piece is shaped and finished by hand in the Mono Aurel atelier. No mould is used, so each sculpture is an individual object rather than a copy.

What is Forma Void made from?
A hand-shaped sculptural lightweight core, covered in multiple layers of durable mineral plaster and finished with a hand-applied textured mineral surface. The result is matte and stone-like, and considerably lighter than solid stone.

Which size should I choose?
The 150 cm size is the hero scale and is intended for large, uninterrupted walls with generous ceiling height, where the sculpture can act as the room's single focal point. Choose 125 cm for a substantial presence on a standard wall, and 100 cm where the available wall area is more limited or partly occupied.

Can the colour be customised?
Yes. Six standard finishes are available, and custom colours can be developed for interior designers and project-specific installations. Select Custom Color at checkout or contact us before ordering to discuss the tone you need.

Can designers request a custom size?
Custom dimensions may be available for interior design, architectural and hospitality projects. Please contact us with the wall dimensions and the project details before ordering.

Are handmade variations normal?
Yes. Differences in texture, surface movement, edge profile and tone occur between pieces and are intentional characteristics of the hand-finishing process. They are not considered faults.

How should the sculpture be cleaned?
With a soft dry cloth, or a slightly damp cloth if needed. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals and solvents, and do not scrub the mineral surface.

Notes from the Atelier

Living with the Forma Void – Large Organic Plaster Wall Sculpture

Material story

Each piece is shaped over a lightweight sculptural core and finished by hand with multiple mineral plaster layers to create its distinctive stone-like surface — applied, dried and carved back until it reads like weathered stone. Mineral pigments, limewash tones and protective finishes are applied by hand according to the selected surface treatment.

Surface character

Run a hand across the surface and you will find gentle tool marks, grain and subtle shifts in tone. This variation is not a defect — it is the record of the making, and the reason no two pieces are ever identical.

How it is made

Concept, carving, reinforcement, plaster, hand sanding, pigmentation, inspection — every piece passes through the same slow sequence of hands before it is packed, one piece at a time. See Our Materials and Process.

Placement & scale

Sculptural objects work best where they can breathe — a quiet corner, an entryway, the end of a hallway, a console styled sparsely. The lightweight sculptural core keeps large architectural forms manageable to position and to move. Give the piece space and side light; plaster texture comes alive in raking light. Exact dimensions are listed above, and a written spec sheet is available on request.

Long-term care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid soaking, harsh cleaners and abrasives. Treated kindly, mineral plaster ages the way good architecture does — slowly, and with character. Read the Care Guidance.
