Materials & Process

Every Mono Aurel piece is formed, finished and packed in our own atelier. Nothing is cast in a factory; nothing ships from a warehouse we have never seen.

The material

We work in layered mineral plaster over a sculpted core. The result is a dense, stone-like surface — hand-troweled, sanded and sealed — with the weight and calm of stone at a fraction of its mass. Tones sit in the ivory, bone and warm sand family and soften beautifully with natural light.

The process

Forming — each silhouette is built up by hand around its core.
Layering — mineral plaster is applied in successive coats, each troweled and cured.
Finishing — the surface is sanded, textured and sealed by hand.
Resting & inspection — pieces cure fully and are inspected before packing.

One of one, by nature

Because every surface is hand-troweled, texture and tone vary subtly from piece to piece — that variation is the point. Your piece will be one of one.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid prolonged direct water contact unless your piece was sealed for sheltered outdoor use — if in doubt, write to us; a real person from the atelier answers.

Material & Process

How a piece is made

Every piece is built by hand from a mineral-plaster composite over a sculpted core — dense like stone, warm like clay. The stages below describe how a form moves from core to finished surface.

The core

Each piece begins as a high-density sculptural core — solid, stable and shaped by hand to establish the form.

Layering

Mineral plaster is applied in layers over the core and carved back, building the stone-like surface stroke by stroke.

Pigment

Natural mineral pigments — ivory, bone and warm sand — are worked into the surface so tone lives in the material, not on top of it.

Finishing

The surface is sanded and refined entirely by hand. The subtle tool marks that remain are the maker's signature.

Sealing

A protective coating shields the surface for daily life while preserving its natural, tactile feel.

Our pieces are made from a mineral-plaster composite, not natural stone, marble or concrete. The stone-like quality comes from how the surface is layered and finished by hand. Gentle variation in grain and tone is inherent to the material and intended.
