Layered mineral plaster over a sculpted core — a dense, stone-like surface, hand-troweled and sealed. Tones sit in the ivory, bone and warm sand family and soften beautifully with natural light.

About this piece

A monumental architectural floor sculpture defined by organic openings, sculpted negative space and a tactile, hand-finished mineral surface.

Portal Totem No.102 brings together primitive geometry and contemporary restraint. Each piece is individually formed and finished by hand in the Mono Aurel atelier, creating a sculptural presence that feels simultaneously ancient, architectural and quietly modern.

Available in 160 cm / 63 in and 180 cm / 70.8 in heights.

Portal Totem No.102

Portal Totem No.102 is a tall, monolithic floor sculpture composed of interconnected geometric volumes and organically rounded openings.

Its architectural silhouette is balanced by softened corners, irregular hand-shaped details and a deeply tactile mineral surface. The open sections allow light, shadow and the surrounding interior to become part of the sculpture, causing its appearance to shift throughout the day.

Inspired by ancient monoliths, carved stone portals and modernist sculpture, the piece is designed to create a strong vertical focal point without overwhelming its surroundings. It works particularly well in large living rooms, entrance halls, stairwells, hotel interiors, galleries and contemporary architectural spaces.

Every sculpture is individually produced in the Mono Aurel atelier. The surface is applied and shaped by hand through multiple layers, giving each piece subtle variations in texture, tonality and tool marks. These variations are intentional and form part of the sculpture’s unique character.

Although the sculpture has the visual presence of carved stone, it is constructed using a lightweight structural core and finished with multiple layers of hand-applied mineral plaster. This makes it easier to position than a comparable solid-stone object while preserving a substantial architectural appearance.

Materials and Construction

  • Lightweight sculptural core
  • Multiple layers of hand-applied mineral plaster
  • Reinforced structural construction
  • Hand-shaped edges and openings
  • Matte stone-effect pigmentation
  • Optional protective topcoat for exterior use

The sculpture is not made from solid natural stone. Its stone-like appearance is created entirely by hand using layered mineral materials, pigments and individually applied surface treatments.

Standard Finish

Weathered Limestone

The standard finish shown in the photographs is a warm, neutral weathered-limestone tone with subtle beige, taupe and mineral-gray variation.

The finish includes:

  • Soft tonal movement
  • Slightly darker pigmentation inside the openings
  • Visible hand-applied texture
  • Matte mineral appearance
  • Naturally irregular tool marks
  • Gentle variation between raised and recessed areas

Because every finish is applied manually, no two sculptures will be completely identical.

Available Color Options

The sculpture can be produced in the following Mono Aurel finishes:

  • Weathered Limestone
  • Ivory White
  • Natural Greige
  • Warm Taupe
  • Sand Beige
  • Grey Brown / Mushroom Brown
  • Charcoal Stone
  • Terra Cotta
  • Sage Green
  • Muted Olive
  • Custom Color

For custom colors, customers may provide:

  • A RAL color code
  • A paint reference
  • An interior photograph
  • A stone or material reference
  • A fabric or furniture color reference

Custom pigmentation may involve an additional fee depending on the requested finish.

Indoor and Outdoor Use

Portal Totem No.102 is primarily designed as an indoor sculptural object.

For outdoor placement, an exterior protective coating can be added upon request. This treatment improves resistance to moisture and normal weather exposure, although the sculpture should still be positioned in a stable location and protected from prolonged standing water, severe impact and extreme weather conditions.

For exposed or windy outdoor installations, we can also discuss a concealed anchoring solution before production.

Please select or request the outdoor finish before production begins.

Production Process

Each sculpture is made individually to order.

The production process includes:

  1. Preparing the structural sculptural form
  2. Reinforcing the body and architectural openings
  3. Applying multiple mineral plaster layers
  4. Hand-shaping the surface and edges
  5. Applying the selected pigmentation
  6. Creating the final stone-effect finish
  7. Quality inspection
  8. Customer approval photographs and videos
  9. Protective packaging and dispatch

Because this is a handmade object, production times may vary slightly depending on the selected size, color and surface treatment.

Approval Before Shipping

Before dispatch, we provide detailed photographs and videos of the completed sculpture.

The sculpture will not be shipped until the final appearance has been reviewed and approved by the customer.

Minor handmade variations in surface texture, dimensions and pigmentation are expected and are not considered defects.

Handmade Character

Each Portal Totem is individually formed and finished by hand.

As a result, the sculpture may include subtle variations such as:

  • Irregular mineral texture
  • Slight dimensional differences
  • Hand-shaped openings
  • Visible application marks
  • Tonal movement
  • Minor asymmetry
  • Variations in the depth of pigmentation

These characteristics are intentional and distinguish the sculpture from a factory-moulded or mass-produced object.

Placement Recommendations

Portal Totem No.102 works especially well in:

  • Entrance halls
  • Living rooms
  • Double-height interiors
  • Stairwells
  • Contemporary villas
  • Interior-design projects
  • Boutique hotels
  • Restaurants
  • Galleries
  • Architectural offices
  • Reception areas
  • Large niches and alcoves

Allowing open space around the sculpture will help the negative spaces and architectural silhouette remain visually clear.

Directional lighting can be used to create stronger shadows through the openings and emphasize the hand-finished surface.
