Materials and craftsmanship

Every piece is shaped over a lightweight sculptural core and finished by hand with multiple layers of mineral plaster, giving a dense, matte, stone-like surface. Mineral pigments, limewash tones and protective finishes are applied by hand according to the selected surface treatment. Tones sit in the ivory, bone and warm sand family and soften beautifully in natural light.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid prolonged direct water contact unless your piece was sealed for sheltered outdoor use — if in doubt, write to us; a real person from the atelier answers.

Production and delivery

Every piece is handcrafted to order in our atelier. Production typically takes 5–10 business days unless this page states otherwise; custom sizes and more complex forms may require additional time.

Your piece leaves the atelier as soon as it is finished. Delivery timing and full terms are set out in the section below.

Shipping, duties and returns

Insured door-to-door delivery is included in the displayed price unless a product page or checkout explicitly states otherwise. Once dispatched, transit typically takes approximately 3–10 business days depending on destination and service; carrier or customs delays can occur. For orders delivered within the United States, applicable customs duties and import charges are covered by Mono Aurel. For deliveries to all other countries, customs duties, import taxes and related destination charges are the buyer's responsibility. Any applicable sales taxes will be displayed at checkout where required. Every shipment is tracked and insured.

Each piece is cushioned and double-boxed like artwork, and you receive tracking as soon as it leaves the atelier.

We share production photos and videos at important stages, and send a detailed final video before dispatch. Your piece is shipped only after you have reviewed and approved it. If you are not satisfied before shipment, we will remake the piece or refund you. Because pieces are made to order, standard change-of-mind returns are not accepted once a piece has been approved and dispatched. Every product is covered by a one-year warranty: in the case of a verified manufacturing defect, product fault or qualifying transit damage, we will provide a refund or a replacement, and in most cases you will not be asked to return the original piece. The warranty does not cover misuse, improper installation, accidental damage or ordinary wear.

About this piece

A handcrafted sculptural object designed for architectural interiors, patios, gardens, entryways, and calm contemporary spaces.

The Hollow Monolith Totem is a freestanding organic sculpture with a soft vertical silhouette and a central opening that creates depth, shadow, and visual lightness. Its form feels both ancient and modern — like a weathered stone object shaped by time, yet refined enough for contemporary interiors.

Each piece is shaped over a lightweight sculptural core and finished by hand with multiple mineral plaster layers to create its distinctive stone-like surface. The surface is built slowly by hand to create a natural stone-like texture with subtle irregularities, depth, and tactile character.

This is not a mass-produced object. Every sculpture carries small variations in surface movement, texture, and tone, making each piece unique.

Medium — height 150 cm / 59 in, approx. width 42–48 cm / 16.5–18.9 in, approx. depth 26–32 cm / 10.2–12.6 in. Recommended for living rooms, terraces and garden walls.

Large — height 180 cm / 70.8 in, approx. width 50–58 cm / 19.6–22.8 in, approx. depth 30–38 cm / 11.8–15 in. Recommended for statement interiors, villas, courtyards and landscape projects.

Because each piece is handmade, dimensions may vary slightly. If you need the sculpture to fit a specific alcove, niche, entrance or garden area, request a custom version.

Material & Finish

Handcrafted structural core, multi-layer mineral plaster surface, natural stone-like textured finish, matte and non-glossy. Suitable for indoor use, and for outdoor use with a protective outdoor finish.

Mineral pigments, limewash tones and protective finishes are applied by hand according to the selected surface treatment. The finish is inspired by limestone, travertine and weathered plaster surfaces, and is intentionally organic, tactile and slightly irregular.

Indoor & Outdoor Use

This sculpture can be used indoors or outdoors. For outdoor placement, we apply a protective finish suitable for patios, gardens, covered terraces and exterior architectural spaces.

For exposed outdoor areas, we recommend placing the sculpture on a stable, level surface. In windy areas or commercial and public spaces, additional fixing to the ground may be recommended.

Where to Use

Living rooms, entryways, garden walls, courtyards, patios and terraces, hotel and villa interiors, landscape design projects, poolside areas, and minimalist or wabi-sabi interiors.

Colour

The standard colour is a warm natural stone tone, similar to limestone beige or ivory plaster. Custom tones may be available upon request, including warmer beige, sand, taupe, charcoal, off-white and matte black. Colour may appear slightly different depending on lighting, screen settings and the handmade plaster texture.

Care

Clean gently with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive pads or pressure washers. For outdoor use, avoid placing the piece in standing water. For long-term exterior use, periodic protective maintenance may be recommended.

Important Notes

This is a handmade sculptural object, not a factory-made item. Small variations in texture, tone and surface movement are part of the character of the piece, and no two sculptures are exactly identical.

Large sculptural pieces are packed in reinforced protective packaging. Please provide a correct phone number and delivery address at checkout so the carrier can arrange door-to-door delivery.

Notes from the Atelier

Living with the Monolith Totem Sculpture

Material story

Each piece is shaped over a lightweight sculptural core and finished by hand with multiple mineral plaster layers to create its distinctive stone-like surface — applied, dried and carved back until it reads like weathered stone. Mineral pigments, limewash tones and protective finishes are applied by hand according to the selected surface treatment.

Surface character

Run a hand across the surface and you will find gentle tool marks, grain and subtle shifts in tone. This variation is not a defect — it is the record of the making, and the reason no two pieces are ever identical.

How it is made

Concept, carving, reinforcement, plaster, hand sanding, pigmentation, inspection — every piece passes through the same slow sequence of hands before it is packed, one piece at a time. See Our Materials and Process.

Placement & scale

Sculptural objects work best where they can breathe — a quiet corner, an entryway, the end of a hallway, a console styled sparsely. The lightweight sculptural core keeps large architectural forms manageable to position and to move. Give the piece space and side light; plaster texture comes alive in raking light. Exact dimensions are listed above, and a written spec sheet is available on request.

Long-term care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid soaking, harsh cleaners and abrasives. Treated kindly, mineral plaster ages the way good architecture does — slowly, and with character. Read the Care Guidance.
